Barack Obama - Hope

JAN 10
Just over a year ago Barack Hussein Obama II was inaugurated as president on January 20, 2009 so I though it would be a good time to reflect upon how he was represented graphically by one image created by Shepard Fairey.
Obama - Hope

This was one of many posters produced by Fairey for Obama's campaign and I took this particular photo on the Las Vegas strip during the week of the American election. I think it's a great image and perfectly captures the mood the country was in around the time of the election. I asked people how they felt about the election and they all without question knew he would win. Some of course didn't want him to win but the result seemed inevitable.

I greatly admire the work of Shepard Fairey and his skill in producing a great image is second to none. I've read articles and views about his work that it's derived from other images and is maybe not as original as we are lead to believe, but inspiration comes from everywhere and good art is just good art.
