Mirador del Río
The location was created in 1974 by César Manrique and features a balustraded cafe, a souvenir shop and a platform on its top to allow visitors to take in the amazing view before them.
Below are the photo's I took of the cafe and shop and as with all things designed by César Manrique it integrates with the landscape effortlessly. Its windows frame the view in different angles and allows such a big space to be enjoyed in bite size pieces. Architecturaly its clean white walls and rounded shape make you feel like you're inside a mountain bubble, cooled from the midday heat. The warm wooden staircase moulds into the walls so you ascend through a tube to the upper levels. Small seating areas cut further into the mountain with portholes that provide welcome natural light. It's a wonderfully designed and thought through space and although simple, always has something interesting for the visitor to enjoy.
